This position will involve experimental set up and testing in wet laboratories, as well as operation of pilot flow loops. Responsibilities: Handle all aspects of sample management receiving, logging into database, sampling, testing and shipping . Construct and operate lab measurements and experiments with crude oil and hydrocarbon samples. Set up and run hydrocarbon pilot flow loops. Scheduling, loading, instrumentation, operating, inspecting, and recording / analyzing data . Proven success in experimental R&D involving hydrocarbons. Ability to independently design, set up and run lab experiments . Working knowledge of organic and analytical chemistry . Strong HSSE compliance outlook and performance, including ability to handle hydrocarbons safely, from labware to drums and tote tanks. Demonstrated skill in being able to run lab instrumentation, including calibration and maintenance . Ability to understand process operations and recognize cause and effects; able to diag-nose upsets and make recommendations to correct . Ability to work as part of a team, following instructions from a variety of other Shell staff . Ability to multitask . Good communication skills, including listening and asking for clarification when needed. . Basic familiarity with Windows, Excel and Word. Able to manipulate data and generate plots in Excel . Ability to perform full range of tasks involved in sample management . Two years college coursework in Science / Math / Engineering degree preferred Skills/ Background Desired . Experience in operation of pilot plants . Experience handling hydrocarbons at high pressures . Experience with rheology, emulsions, surface science, titrations, microscopy . Experience in multiphase flow . Ability to operate process controllers / data acquisition programs . Ability to maintain and operate pumps, compressors, instruments, valves, other process equipment . Ability to work with piping, fittings, instrumentation, and equipment to dismantle and assemble flow loop and connected process equipment .
